An interior wood door sets the rhythm of a home. It frames light, dampens sound and punctuates the flow from one space to another with a material that ages well. At MICHELENA, we have built high-end interior doors for more than 20 years. Swing, sliding, pocket or French doors. The form, species and treatment are set by the project, never by a catalog.

A MICHELENA interior door is built layer by layer in solid wood: perimeter frame in noble wood, edge-joined solid core for stability, panels or solid veneer selected for grain continuity, on-site molding and finish applied in a controlled booth. Most North American interior doors, by contrast, are hollow-core: two thin MDF panels stretched over a light perimeter frame, the inside largely empty. The difference shows up in weight, sound at closing, durability and the ability to restore the material rather than replace it.

Species, finishes and personalization

The eight catalog species at MICHELENA are available for interior use: white oak, red oak, sapele mahogany, maple, birch, cherry, black walnut and poplar. More exotic species can be sourced on request. On finishes: matte, satin or natural varnish, custom stain, or full-color paint. The interior door is the most open application of the catalog, in contrast to exterior doors restricted to white oak and sapele mahogany.

Hollow-panel or MDF doors dominate the residential market. Here is what solid wood brings differently.

At 1¾ inches thick, solid wood significantly reduces sound transmission between rooms. Ideal for bedrooms, home offices and music rooms.

Where a hollow door deforms or punctures within a few years, wood lasts decades. A scratch is sanded and refinished. The material is not replaced, it is restored.

Weight, sound at closing, texture under the hand. A wood door delivers a sense of quality that industrial alternatives do not reproduce.

Technical drawings produced by our team. Validation of dimensions, molding profile, hardware and desired appearance.

For a full home, interior doors are built in a batch so that tone, molding and grain stay consistent from room to room. Every step (cutting, molding, assembly, finishing) takes place in the workshop without external transfer.

Protected delivery to your site. Installation can be entrusted to one of our partners or to your contractor for final on-site adjustments.

Choosing an interior door means choosing between product families: solid or hollow, standard or non-standard dimensions, fire-rated or not. The answers come in that order.

A hollow-core door consists of a lightweight frame covered with thin panels. Economical, it offers limited sound insulation and reduced durability in demanding environments. A MICHELENA door, by contrast, is built from carefully selected solid wood, assembled using proven lamination and stabilization techniques. This construction maximizes the dimensional stability of the wood while preserving its natural beauty. The result is a robust door offering excellent sound insulation, superior resistance to climate variations and a durability designed to last for generations.

Yes, provided you choose a humidity-resistant species like white oak, and apply a suitable finish. Room ventilation must be adequate to prevent excessive moisture buildup.

The most common widths are 28, 30, 32 and 36 inches. Standard height is 80 inches (6 ft 8). Since our doors are built to order, any non-standard dimension is feasible, including oversized doors for 9 or 10-foot ceilings.

Yes. We build doors compliant with ULC 20-minute and ULC 45-minute standards for commercial and institutional projects. These doors are tested and certified to withstand fire for the specified duration.

A custom interior door takes 8 to 10 weeks to build in the workshop, from production start to completion. For a full set (for example, all the interior doors of a home), each batch follows the same timeline, adjusted for the complexity of the chosen finishes.
