Solid wood exterior doors

An exterior wood door that commands respect

Built one at a time in our St-Eustache workshop, our exterior doors pair the nobility of solid wood with thermal performance designed for the Quebec climate.

MICHELENA entry doors

First impressions begin at the front door

An exterior wood entry door is more than a functional element. It is the piece that welcomes, that protects, and that sets the architectural tone for the entire façade. At MICHELENA, we have built custom doors for more than 20 years for homes and commercial buildings that refuse the ordinary. Carved panels, integrated stained glass, curved transoms or clean contemporary designs. Anything is possible when the starting point is a noble material and a workshop that masters the art of shaping it.

Design and materials

Anatomy of a MICHELENA exterior door

Designed to withstand Quebec’s temperature swings while keeping its beauty over the years. Species choice, frame thickness and surface treatment are set per project.

  • Species selected for exterior use

For exterior doors, we mainly work white oak and sapele mahogany, two species chosen for their stability and natural resistance to climate variations. Other noble species are available on request. Thickness ranges from 2¼ inches for standard doors up to 5 inches for monumental or pivot doors.

Technical features

Advantages of solid wood outdoors

Why wood outperforms steel and fiberglass

Steel and fiberglass entry doors dominate the residential market. And yet wood remains the only material that combines three essential properties.

Superior thermal insulation

Wood is a natural insulator 400 times more effective than steel. A 2¼-inch door delivers an R-value above its metal equivalents, reducing winter heat loss. For reinforced insulation, monumental configurations can reach 5 inches in thickness.

Full repairability

A scratch, an impact or surface wear can be corrected by sanding and refinishing. Dented steel or cracked fiberglass gets replaced. Wood gets restored.

Architectural presence

Visible grain, depth of tone, warmth to the touch. No synthetic material reproduces this physical presence. It is what makes the difference between a door and an entrance.

Process

From the first meeting to installation

Four steps to obtain an exterior door perfectly suited to your home.

01
Consultation

Meeting in person or remotely to define style, dimensions, species and options. Plans and photos of the current façade are welcome.

02
Design

Technical drawing produced by our team. Validation of dimensions, glazing, hardware and finish before manufacturing starts.

03
Manufacturing

An exterior door passes through the hands of a single artisan who follows every step. Cutting, assembly, optional carving, stained glass installation if ordered, and application of a surface treatment designed for Quebec freeze-thaw cycles. Lead time depends on order complexity.

04
Delivery

Protected delivery to your site. Installation can be entrusted to one of our partners or to your contractor for final on-site adjustments.
